Family sponsorship permanent residence: spouse, partner or child

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident may sponsor an eligible spouse, partner or dependent child for permanent residence when the relationship and sponsor requirements are met. Sponsorship approval and permanent-residence approval are separate decisions; the route is not an automatic status conversion.
